Where can I use my Campfire Cooking Grill?

The Pioneer and NEW Original grills can be used anywhere you can light a campfire or firepit – they are perfect for when you are camping or on the beach. It is of course essential that campfires are lit responsibly and all the necessary safety precautions are taken before lighting a fire. A fire should never be left alone and children and pets must be supervised at all times.

Can I use my grill with a fire pit?

The grills will work well with a fire pit providing the fire pit is low enough to go under the grill cooking surface.

Which campsites allow campfires?

Large numbers of enlightened (no pun intended) campsites across the UK and elsewhere in Europe allow you to have campfires.

See listings at: www.ukcampsitefinder.co.uk and www.ukcampsite.co.uk and www.thehappycampers.co.uk and www.campfiresburning.org/sites.php

Can I boil a kettle/put a pan on the grill?

Yes. Providing the upright stake is firmly in the ground and the kettle or pan is not too heavy the grills can be used to support them over your fire.

Tip: If you coat the underside of your pots with washing up liquid before placing them over the fire it makes cleaning much easier. However, please ensure you wipe any washing up liquid off your grill once it has cooled before using it to grill food.

How heavy are the grills?

The Pioneer campfire grill is 9lb (4 kilos) in weight and the NEW Original campfire grill is 16lb (7 kilos).

How big are the grills?

The Pioneer grill has a circular 18" (26cm) diameter grill and is big enough to cook for friends and family. The cooking grill connects to a sturdy upright stake (36" (92cm) total length, ¾” (2cm) diameter).

The NEW Original grill has a larger square steel grilling surface 20"x 25" (51cm x 64cm) and so is suitable for larger families and parties.

How can I raise or lower the grill?

The grills can be raised and lowered very easily by loosening the bolt that attaches the grill to the upright stake. The bolt is tightened again once the grill is at the desired height for cooking.

How do I turn the food while it is still cooking without burning myself?

Easy. Both the grills rotate through 360 degrees allowing you to turn or serve food away from the heat and flames of the fire. You can then safely and comfortably turn or serve your food.

How can I add more wood /tend to the fire and continue cooking?

Easy. Both the grills rotate through 360 degrees allowing you to turn the grill round so it is no longer over the fire. Add more wood then turn your pot or the grill back over the heat to continue cooking.

Is the grill easy to clean?

Yes. The stainless steel grills clean up using just a bit of soapy water and a scouring pad. Most of the grease generated by the food during cooking is burnt away.

What size is the grill packed up in its bag?

As space is always a premium when packing or storing equipment the grills are designed to flat pack into a handy tote bag and therefore take up minimal space. The free carrying bag is 18" (46cm) high by 18.5" wide (47cm) and just 4.5" (12cm) deep. The upright stake unscrews into two parts 17" (46cm) long that fit into the bag with the cooking grill and the protective pan grab and glove. There is also plenty of room left to pack your cooking tools - sorry these are not provided!

How do I get the upright stake into the ground?

The stake has a sharpened end and should be easy to push into most ground, however, a mallet may be used to push the stake deeper into the ground as desired.

Why doesn’t the food just roll off the grill and into the fire?

All the campfire grills have a unique raised edge to prevent your food from falling into the fire or onto the ground during cooking.
